We didn't know what was missing until Courtney helped us with our son's ARD. Thanks to her knowledge and insistence that he receive additional testing, we learned that our 6th grader has dyslexia- a diagnosis the school district had missed for years! Due to an articulation delay, our son had received speech services through the school district since he was 3 years old. We had a good relationship with the school and trusted they were providing the services he needed. But he was never on grade level for reading, so we paid for outside private reading tutoring for 5 years. During our annual ARDs in 1st and 4th grade, we requested full evaluations. We didn't realize that they decided both times to not test for dyslexia because he didn't fit certain criteria. But I did not really understand what the test results meant and I did not know what to ask for. That is where Courtney came in. She reviewed his paperwork and knew something was missing. She was very professional and respectful, but when the school said he didn't need additional testing, she insisted they specifically test for learning disabilities, including dyslexia. Then when we got the diagnosis, it was clear the school's goal was to deny fault and incur as little expense as possible. During two follow-up meetings, Courtney advocated for him to get the services he needs and the district agreed to provide summer services outside of ESY requirements.
My biggest regret is not involving Courtney years ago so that he could have had a timely diagnosis and been on grade level by now. As a lawyer and active PTA parent, I thought I should be able to advocate for my child and that I could rely on the teachers' expertise and obvious concern for my son. But that's not how the system is designed. You need someone with her knowledge and experience to make sure your child is getting what they need to succeed. Don't wait or see how it goes; if your child has special education needs, get Courtney involved today! ~ Ashley from Texas
I am pleased to recommend Courtney. We worked together for 3 years in special education. During that time, she produced, managed, and directed key programs that resulted in positive outcomes for our special education students and staff. She is an innovative individual and desires to always see the potential in people and programs. She recognizes when her colleagues are doing well and acknowledges their hard work. As a colleague, she challenged and encouraged me, which resulted in growth and success in our program. Courtney is a delight to work with and I wouldn’t hesitate to work with her again if the opportunity arose. ~Cristina from Texas
I LOVED working with Courtney! She is ethical, student focused and knowledgeable in all areas of special education. I would absolutely entrust Courtney with my district and child's programming to ensure their needs are appropriately met. ~ Angie from Texas
